Carolina Torreblanca

¡Hola! I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at PDRI-DevLab at the University of Pennsylvania. I am also an incoming Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Data Driven Discovery Initiative (DDDI) at the University of Pennsylvania and an external Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Poverty, Violence and Governance Lab at Stanford University.

My research sits at the intersection of comparative political economy and political methodology. In my substantive work, I examine how institutional arrangements determine who is vulnerable to violence, how citizens interpret their experiences with state security provision, and how they can respond politically to failures and inequalities in protection. To understand how violence changes political participation, I develop methodological tools that clarify how estimand choice incorporates heterogeneity in treatment effects and exposure, and what this means for understanding real-world changes in political outcomes.

I received my Ph.D. in Politics from New York University in 2024. I hold a B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in International Relations from ITAM (2015). Before grad school, I was the Director of Data Analysis at Data Cívica.

You can follow me on Bluesky if you want to read me seldom. If you are in the mood to read some diligent, but mediocre movie reviews, you can check out my Letterboxd. I am also working on an ever-expanding compilation of the best cover songs you can listen to, or if you want to experience what it’s like to have me discuss a paper at a conference, this playlist is for you. Or reach me via email.
